Valentine's Day Cards

Facts
Approximately 190 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged industry-wide (not including packaged kids’ valentines for classroom exchanges), making Valentine’s Day the second-largest holiday for giving greeting cards.
Hallmark creates more than 2,000 Valentine’s Day greeting card designs.
Hallmark first offered Valentine’s Day cards in 1913 and began producing them in 1916.

2008 Product News

  • Spin-a-majigs™ are a new kind of greeting card introduced by Hallmark for the 2008 Valentine’s Day season. The eight cards in the collection come to life with animated motion through the use of hand-activated gears. For example, turn the crank and see a puppy’s tail wagging or grandma dancing.

  • New Hallmark (PRODUCT) RED™ Valentine’s Day cards give consumers the opportunity buy the perfect Valentine’s Day card with the benefit of knowing they are saving lives of women and children in Africa. The line includes 18 cards, including six that play songs. A portion of the sales from Hallmark (PRODUCT) RED goes directly to the Global Fund to help women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Africa.

  • Cards With Motion use a unique printing technology that gives the illusion of a two-second video or animation clip, a 3D image, or a combination of both when the cards are tipped from side to side. The line includes 15 cards, including nine that also feature sound.

  • Cards With Sound play favorite songs by the original artists and audio clips from movies and TV shows with CD-like quality. The line includes 42 cards featuring songs such as “I Can’t Fight This Feeling,” by REO Speedwagon and “Call and Answer” by the Barenaked Ladies, or audio clips from movies and TV shows such as Gone with the Wind and I Love Lucy.

  • Valentine's greeting cards featuring popular political figures such as President George W. Bush and Senator Hillary Clinton are available for the first time, bringing a light-hearted chuckle to the political frenzy.
